Our Community Mediation Team deals with disputes between neighbours and amongst community and residents groups, church and faith groups. Neighbour and other disputes within communities can be very stressful and have a huge impact both on those immediately involved and the wider community.
We currently work with a number of social landlords in London to provide mediation services for their residents. If you are having a dispute within the community, including anti social behaviour please contact us to discuss further.
The sort of issues we can help with include
- Anti-social behaviour
- Noise disturbance
- Boundary issues
- Trees, hedges and fences
- Hate crimes
- Complaints about social landlords
- Disputes amongst or between community groups
- Conflict within Tenant and Resident Associations (TRAs)
Neighbour disputes – How it works
If your housing association or other RSL have a contract with SMC you will be referred to us by them.
We will contact you and arrange to meet you to discuss the difficulties you are having with your neighbour. If at the end of this discussion you want to go ahead with mediation we will try and contact your neighbour and arrange to meet them to discuss the situation. If they agree to go ahead with mediation we will arrange a joint mediation session at a neutral venue.
The mediators will ensure that you both have the opportunity to speak and be heard. They aim to help you both to reach a better understanding and agreement on how you want to resolve the difficulties and improve the situation.
At the end of the session if you have come to an agreement the mediators will write it up and ensure that you both have a copy. We will follow up to see how things are a couple of months later and if there are any further problems we will offer further mediation sessions.
Community and residents groups
We can facilitate meetings of residents’ and community groups or meetings between residents and landlords. We also provide coaching on how to communicate effectively.
